Prestigious Tips for Winter Car Care

Winter is the toughest season for our car’s exterior, interior and undercarriage. We recommend washing your car once a week in the winter for multiple reasons.

1. Improve Your Visibility
Snow, slush, dirt, salt and grime build up over time on the exterior of your vehicle. Buildup can cover areas such as your windshield, side mirrors, headlights and brake lights, making it difficult to see the road and others clearly. Regular cleaning removes buildup from these key areas helping you stay safer on the road by giving you better visibility.

2. Prevent Rust, Corrosion, and Your Car’s Paint
New England roads are heavily treated with salt to prevent ice, but the salt can be extremely damaging to your vehicle without regular washing. Salt eats away at metal parts, causing rust and structural damage over time. Regular washing is extremely important for your undercarriage, which is a tough spot to clean on your own, and a very vulnerable part of your car. Proper maintenance and washing of your undercarriage can help prevent damage.

3. Protect Your Paint
Does your paint still look perfect? If your paint still looks pristine, winter chemicals can quickly change that. The chemicals used to melt snow can get on your car causing paint discoloration and peeling. Car washes can help you keep your paint perfect. Frequent washing during the winter helps preserve your vehicle’s finish and keeps it looking newer for longer.

4. Preserves Resale Value and Lowers Maintenance Cost
Thinking of selling your car soon? Having a clean, rust-free car can help with that. Rust typically devalues a car by 10-20%, as it is a safety concern. Even if you don’t plan on keeping your current vehicle forever, it’s better in the long run to take care of it this winter.

When should you wash?
Depending on how often you drive in the winter, we would suggest you wash your car at least once a week, especially when the roads are heavily salted. At Prestige, our VIP Members can wash up to once a day, which can save you money in the long run.
